SaveBlueberryPond.Org is a volunteer community environmental
association whose goal is to protect and improve the quality of water
and preserve the natural environment while insuring access on a reasonable scale.
One current focus is Ocean Edge's plans to develop large scale commercial, recreational facilities on Blueberry Pond for use by their Britterige Village renters and Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club members.
On May 21, 2013, the Brewster Conservation Commission approved the construction of the project, which includes two large docks (480sq. ft. each), finger piers on the docks - which are to be phased-in over a two year period, two observation decks (30' x 25') overlooking each dock area and a sanded picnic area near one observation deck. Trees will be removed for the picnic area to create a view corridor from
the observation deck. An additional proposal (still pending) would further remove trees and shrubs around the rental units of Britterige Village, eliminating the natural view of the pond for all but Ocean Edge.
The Water Quality Committee is in the process of developing plans for remediation of both ponds in the watershed - Blueberry and Sol's ponds.
